DAY 1: Cusco, Km 82, to Hatun Chaca

Departing from the Urubamba valley, we’ll venture into the Cusichaca valley, ultimately arriving at our first campsite, Hatunchaca. DAY 2: Hatun Chaca to Pacaymayu
This leg of the journey stands out as the most strenuous yet rewarding segment of our route. We traverse the picturesque Wayllabamba valley, passing by charming local houses that offer a glimpse into the lives of the indigenous people. The ascent becomes progressively steeper, leading us through a stunning tapestry of native vegetation until we conquer the majestic Warmiwañusca Pass, known as ‘Dead Woman Pass,’ standing tall at an impressive 4215 meters (13,828 feet) above sea level—the highest point on our trail. As we descend from this lofty pass, a meticulously crafted stone trail guides our way to the tranquil camping site at Pacaymayu. Situated at an altitude of 3600 meters (11,811 feet), this campsite provides a welcome respite after a demanding 11-kilometer (6.84-mile) trek.
In the thinning mountain air and amid changing landscapes, this challenging day’s journey serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience found in both nature and the human spirit.

DAY 3: Pacaymayu to Phuyupatamarka
The day we’ve all been waiting for, considered the highlight of our hike, is also the shortest. After a hearty breakfast to fuel our spirits, we embark on a thrilling journey over the second-highest point of the trail, Runkurakay Pass, which stands tall at 3950 meters (12,959 feet) above sea level. Our descent leads us to the mesmerizing Inca site of Sayacmarka, nestled amidst a lush and mystical cloud forest.
The path ahead unfurls before us, a testament to the master craftsmanship of our ancestors. We traverse the original stone-paved Inca trail, a tangible link to the past. As we continue along the ridge, our surroundings transform into a symphony of breathtaking landscapes. To the east, the formidable silhouettes of Mt. Salkantay and Mt. Pumasillo grace our journey.
Our destination for the day is the ethereal campsite of Phuyupatamarka, perched high above the clouds. From this vantage point, we are treated to spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys—a sight to behold.

DAY 4: Wiñay Wayna, Sun Gate to Machu Picchu
Get ready for the day you’ve been eagerly anticipating—the day you reach the Sun Gate and catch your first breathtaking glimpse of Machu Picchu. Rise early to witness a spectacular sunrise before descending through the enchanting cloud forest, where nature’s wonders await. Our journey continues as we explore the awe-inspiring Inca site of Wiñay Wayna. After a fulfilling lunch, we press on along the historic Inca trail, ultimately arriving at Inti Punku, the famed Sun Gate. Here, you’ll be treated to one of the most spectacular panoramic views of Machu Picchu, with ample time to savor the magical Inca city as the sun sets on this ancient wonder. We’ll then board a bus to Aguas Calientes, where our comfortable hotel and a delicious dinner will await your arrival.

DAY 5: Machu Picchu to Cusco
After enjoying a hearty breakfast at our hotel in the early morning, we embark on a captivating journey that begins with a half-hour bus ride to the entrance of Machu Picchu. Here, the awe-inspiring Inca citadel awaits us, and our walking tour of this remarkable site commences with exploring the most important building of Machu Picchu. The tour will take around 3 hours.
Following our exploration of Machu Picchu, we will descend by bus to Aguas Calientes, where a well-deserved lunch break awaits. After savoring a delicious meal, we’ll board the train that will transport us back to Ollantaytambo. From there, our private transportation will safely return us to our hotel in Cusco.
The bus will cover a distance of 6 kilometers (approximately 3.73 miles).
