DAY 1: The Sacred Ascent – Km 104, Wiñay Wayna & The Sun Gate
Your journey begins with a seamless private pickup from your Cusco hotel, followed by a scenic rail journey to Km 104, the official gateway to the Short Inca Trail. The trek commences with an ascent toward the breathtaking terraces of Wiñay Wayna (2,650m), widely considered the most beautiful archaeological site on the entire trail. Along the path, you will also visit the hidden gem of Chachabamba, an ancient site often overlooked by larger groups.
After a thoughtfully prepared Box lunch, you will push through the lush cloud forest to reach Inti Punku (The Sun Gate). Arriving in the late afternoon allows you to witness the awe-inspiring sight of Machu Picchu bathed in the soft, golden hues of sunset—a magical moment that few travelers get to experience. The day concludes with a descent to Aguas Calientes for a celebratory dinner and a restful night in a comfortable hotel.
DAY 2: The Lost City Revealed – Machu Picchu Guided Tour
The second day is dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of the “Lost City of the Incas.” We journey back to the citadel on the earliest morning bus to experience the site before the peak heat and crowds arrive. Following the guided exploration, you will have ample time to connect with the site at your own pace. For those seeking an extra challenge, we can arrange permits for the climb up Huayna Picchu, offering unparalleled bird’s-eye views of the ruins. The afternoon includes a relaxed lunch in Aguas Calientes before your scenic train return to Ollantaytambo and a private transfer back to your hotel in Cusco.
DAY 3: The Painted Peaks – Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley
The final leg of your adventure is a journey into the surreal landscapes of the South Valley. Starting early to beat the traffic, we travel through picturesque Andean villages and valleys teeming with alpacas. The hike to the summit of Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) at 5,030m reveals a stunning canvas of natural mineral stripes set against the backdrop of the snow-capped Ausangate massif.
To provide a truly complete experience, we descend through the Red Valley.
